About the event
Join us in a beautiful ancient woodland to learn the craft of spoon carving with Steve Ridd of Northern Wood Monkey.
No previous woodworking experience is necessary, though those with knowledge of working with wood will still find fresh challenges in the hand-carved spoon.
The joy of spoon carving is that we don't need expensive tools, workshops and workbenches. Just our hands and a few simple tools. You will develop skills to take away with you to be able to carve at home, sat outside on warm summers evenings or in front of the fire on those chilly winter nights.
You will learn safe grips and cutting techniques with both a straight and bent (hook) knife, which are the two that we use to make the spoon.
We will begin with a ready cut spoon 'blank' and use the knives to carve your own unique spoon from this.
All tools and materials supplied. The venue has a sheltered workshop area in case of rain, and a composting toilet.
Please note that the meeting point is a 20 minute walk from Prudhoe train station, or a 15 minute walk from villages of Ovingham/ Ovington. Please get in touch if accessibility would be an issue: info@whittledenecic.co.uk
This event is for people aged 18 years and over.
